TCAA Named 2026 Nonprofit of the Year! |
Dear %contactInformalName%, Tempe Community Action Agency is honored to be named the 2026 Nonprofit of the Year by the Tempe Chamber through its Business Excellence Awards.
This award recognizes a year of dedication, compassion, and impact made possible by our staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners. It reflects the countless acts of service that strengthen our community, from delivering Meals on Wheels, distributing food, helping families remain housed and connecting neighbors with critical resources.
Your continued support helps us build a stronger, healthier East Valley. |
Arizona’s extreme summer heat creates life-threatening conditions beyond what air temperature suggests. While air temperatures may reach 110°F, asphalt can exceed 160°F and concrete can top 140°F, placing individuals experiencing homelessness at immediate risk of burns, dehydration, and heat exhaustion.
Without access to shade, water, or cooling spaces, many unsheltered residents face prolonged exposure that can quickly become deadly. Expanded shelter, cooling centers, outreach, and long-term housing are urgently needed to keep our neighbors safe.
TCAA helps reduce these dangers by connecting neighbors to shelter, hydration, and critical support during extreme heat. Community support strengthens these life-saving services when demand is highest. Phillip Scharf CEO

The city clears out a bit in the summer, but our volunteer needs do not! TCAA delivers meals daily to homebound seniors in Tempe and Scottsdale, providing not only nutrition, but also meaningful connection.
Volunteer shifts are flexible and whether you drive weekly, monthly, or as a substitute, your time makes a real difference.
Thanks to a generous donor, TCAA is now able to cover the cost of the required Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card for new volunteers who commit to six months of service. This support helps remove a financial barrier so more people can get involved.
Please email our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer1@tempeaction.org for additional information about how you can participate! |
Free Public Skate at Mullet Arena! |
From June 6th through June 27th, Bar-S Foods, Mountain America Community Iceplex and Tempe Community Action Agency are teaming up to help fight hunger among Tempe’s homeless population through a community food drive.
Guests who donate five canned food items or make a $10 cash donation will receive a free public skate voucher as a thank-you for their support.
Cash donations must be made on-site during a public skate session to qualify, and donations are limited to one public skate voucher per donation. Join us in making a difference for local families and individuals in need while enjoying a day on the ice. |
Rent Assistance Made the Difference |
When Crystal's husband lost his job, their family quickly fell behind on rent and struggled to cover basic expenses. While relying on temporary food assistance and support from local churches, they faced the possibility of losing their home.
Through TCAA's rent assistance program, the family was able to catch up on rent, avoid eviction, and keep their children in the same schools. "We have been praying, and the timing was a blessing to my family to receive this assistance from TCAA," Crystal shared. Today, the family is back on stable footing and able to maintain their housing after receiving timely assistance through TCAA's rent assistance program. |
At Tempe Community Action Agency, we envision a society where every person has what they need to live a healthy, purposeful life. It is our mission to eliminate poverty and advance equitable communities. |
